Just when you thought Ryanair airlines couldn't get any cheaper (and I use that word in the 'stingy and mean' sense) - not only are they hiking the price of stowed bags in summer months from £15 to £20, but they'll be charging you to use the toilet!

Yep, that's right - £1 to spend a penny on a Ryanair flight. Next they'll be charging you for oxygen too.

Yet another reason to fly BBI or Air Lingus etc to Ireland and other European destinations. By the time you compare their total cost to the total cost of extra fees + inconvenient seating + the sheer total bloody aggravation of Ryanair, they come out streets ahead.

Just watched the latest episode of Human Target, "Victoria", last night. A rollicking good show as usual, but in amongst a host of absudities I must admit the thing that made me laugh the most was Kavan Smith (Lorne from SGA) with the worst ever posh English accent.
Seriously. LMAO excruciating.

So tonight I finally watched 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', which I thought - sad to say - was kinda ho-hum.

Don't get me wrong - I love the Wolverine character and comics, and have the first fifty or so issues of his independant series, but whilst he's great in ink and quite good in an ensemble cast movie, he just couldn't carry the film by himself. Which really? Should not be so.

I blame the writers/producers/director myself, because [mild spoilers herewith] despite the fact he's a kickass fighter in any format, I thought the best action scene in the movie was not even his, but was Wade Wilson (later Deadpool) being supreme with a pair of katana. That's the scene where I went: 'Now that - that was just cool'.

They're currently making the Deadpool movie - with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool again - and will apparently be sticking close to the comic book character, in that he mentions his little yellow boxes and breaks the fourth wall. At least the character spouts a constant stream of strong, if off-beat, humour, which I think was a problem with Wolverine  the movie. Wolverine has a dry, sometimes dark, sense of humour but we got to see too little (if any) of it in the film. The only light touches were injected by secondary characters such as Wade and Remy le Beau/Gambit.

So thumbs up for Ryan Reynold's performance in Wolverine and of course I loved him as Hannibal King in Blade Trinity, which was by far and away the best of the series and is one of my favourite films. His King was also more fun than the comic book character, though Blade is prettymuch a judgemental jerk in both film and print (Nightstalkers - I was very good at collecting series that crashed and died). I'm looking forward to Deadpool - and hoping it's not as flat as Wolverine was.

Also coming out soon is the Green Lantern film. Never one of my favourite superhero comics - they were all a bit too wholesome and goody-two shoes way back in the '70s & '80s when I originally read them  (as a kid! I'm not that ancient). Guy Gardner made me laugh my ass off when I first read him in JLA. But they've cast Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, Mr Squeaky Clean himself (until, you know, the whole turning-into-a-supervillain-for-a-season-or-two thing). Not quite sure I can see that casting - Reynolds himself has said he always wanted to play The Flash, which seems to me a more apt choice - so I'll be interested to see what they come out with.

Yes? No? What do you think of that casting? (has anyone else even read all these comics or have I just outed myself for no good reason?) ;-)

For those of you in the City, Above The Stag Theatre “London’s most central fringe theatre”, is performing 'Maurice', a play based on E.M. Forster's novel.

"A tale of passion, bravery and defiance, Maurice is adapted from E.M Forster’s intensely personal novel. Completed in 1914 it remained unpublished until after Forster's death in 1970. Compellingly honest and beautifully written, it offers a powerful condemnation of the repressive attitudes of British society, and is at once a moving love story and an intimate tale of one man's erotic and political self-discovery. Maurice is a plea for emotional and sexual honesty, and it criticises the repressive attitudes of British society."

This is one of my favorite literary novels (admittedly, a very very small category, as my tastes incline more to pulp fiction than literature) and whilst I'm not so sure it will translate fantastically well to the stage, but it might be worth a butcher's.

March 2 - 28th, tickets cost £12 and are available here.

Heh, I forgot about this! Here's prettymuch the only thing I finished last year. I love Regency romance, so this was great fun to write:

Of Events Past and Future

"She laughed. 'You're infatuated, sir. But I'm not respectable, give you my word. In boy's clothes I've kept a gaming-house with my father; I've escaped out of windows and up chimneys; I've travelled in the tail of an army not English; I've played a dozen parts, and – well, it has been necessary for me often to carry a pistol in my pocket.'
Sir Anthony's head was turned towards her. 'My dear, will you never realise that I adore you?'"

Hope it's a good one for you all.

I don't often make New Year's resolutions (in fact that usually is my New Year's resolution - don't make any), but this year I think it shall be: WRITE MORE FANFIC.

And try and cut down on the caffeine intake.

I'd really like to find a copy of the song 'Exile', written/sung by Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts, from the album "Kate Rusby & Kathryn Roberts" (you might remember the very excellent and lovely Dr Who fanvid by Wolfling with the Ninth Doctor, which uses it).

Sadly the only copy I can find online is at amazon.co.uk and costs £31. Eep!

Does anyone know where I can find this song as a download, or a cheaper copy of the album?

So I got the book "Red-Headed Stepchild" by Jaye Wells out of the library. It's the latest in the "I am an [insert species here] Assassin for the Supernatural, with an Angst-ridden Past & Hidden DESTINY" trope.

I quite enjoyed Jennifer Rardin's 'Jaz Parks' books (female CIA assassin with a vampire partner), and was rather hoping for something in a similar vein (heh. sorry). I guess I should have known better as I'm up to Chapter 4 and already totally despise the lead character.

Has anyone read this book? Does it get better, or am I just better off saving myself the irritation and returning it to the library unread?

So the latest issue of InStyle magazine has - count them - not one, but two Bodyshop eyeliners, in a range of colours, as their freebie.

That's a saving of about  UKP 12.00, so run, do not walk, to the nearest newsagent if you are currently eyelinerless (or if like myself you require them for a Halloween costume).

Of course you receive the magazine along with the cosmetics, and even though I'm a serious proponent of the school of thought that 'beauty  magazines promote low self esteem' and should bear a mental health warning, I took a flick through (because I must admit I like looking at the jewellery).

And OMFG, am I just getting old and mothball-worthy? Because I have never seen a 'fashion' magazine with such an ugly and totally unwearable collection of clothing before. Awful, awful, awful.

People buy this crap?

InStyle? - not in this lifetime.

UK fans of the show, or those - like myself - who've been meaning to see it but just haven't gotten around to it yet, will be pleased to know that dvd.co.uk is selling the first series of Eureka (aka A Town Called Eureka) for the measley sum of £5.37, including P&P!

Grab it quick from here.

A woman claims clothing firm Abercrombie & Fitch made her work in the stockroom because her prosthetic arm did not fit the shop's image...(and) is suing for disability discrimination and seeking up to £20,000 in damages.

A spokeswoman for the company said:

"Abercrombie & Fitch has a strong anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policy, and is committed to providing a supportive and dignified environment for all its employees."

Shop assistants aside, this is the company that splashes soft-porn shots of barely clothed young men across their ads, right?

Hmm. Yeah. They obviously know the meaning of the word 'dignified'.
