#17: FAKE Vol. 1 by Sanami Matoh
#18: FAKE Vol. 2 by Sanami Matoh
My Rating: 9/10
Category: Fiction - Manga Graphic Novel
Meet Dee Latener and his half-Japanese partner Randy (call me Ryo) McLane, a couple of detectives in New York's 27th Precinct. Not only does this pair of crime-fighting crusaders chase down criminals, but Dee can't seem to keep chasing Ryo as well...
I don't really need to recommend this, as any manga fan will know of it already. Beautiful artwork, actual plot, engaging characters, humor, suspense, danger and a generous dollop of hot and sweet romance (both m/f and m/m). All the ingredients necessary for making what is considered a classic manga. A possible drawback is that nothing resembling the reality of everyday life in a police precinct, or Amercian public opinion on openly gay policemen impinges on the books, but then manga is fundamentally escapism. And this fits the bill wonderfully. Note: Not for the homophobic.
The only thing I wonder is why it's called FAKE? Bikky (one of the secondary characters) has that on his cap, but that's the only connection I can work out!
