Survived!

So I survived the weekend. Phew. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but neither was it as much of a breakthrough as I'd hoped. C'est la vie, I guess. Saturday we got up late and went into Hammersmith. We had lunch in a pub, did some shopping (or rather, in my case, window shopping), had a bottle of wine in another pub, missed the movie and then came home. I cooked, we read and the day was friendly and carefully polite.
Sunday we got up late (recurring theme), the Older Sibling took me to breakfast at my local pub (another recurring theme), then an old school friend of her's, Simon, came around. I made a pot of tea and then she skived off with him until about 11:45pm. I made my Younger Sibling's birthday present (will post photo later if I remember to take one), and then burnt some anime. And made an icon for my Saiyuki Gaidan "Couch" ficlet:

So tonight we're off to see Pirates otC and then she's blowing my popstand to spend the night with Simon b... oops, not going there. [evil smile] Considering the bad start, it turned out to be an OK visit. Not something I want to do often, but I'm glad we've got to the 'cordial' stage. Of course, whether it will survive impact with the introduction of other members of the family remains to be seen...

Mixing the knowledge of Poverty as a Large Part of My Future for the next few months, with a look at my CD collection resulted in one of those "Gods, but I'm getting middle-aged, staid and out of touch" freakouts that all of you LJ people under the age of 28 probably haven't (thankfully) experienced yet. I can't remember the last time I actually listened to the radio. Eep.

So I succumbed to the lure of music-piracy and went off and downloaded Morpheus. Now I just need some recommendations. Quick list of my favorites:

Concrete Blonde
The Sisters of Mercy (Andrew Eldritch always insists on the 'The', which is also a band I like)
Soundgarden
Depeche Mode
Heather Nova
The Crow & The Lost Boys soundtracks
plus Synthesiser bands such as OMD, Blancmange, New Order & A Flock of Seagulls (wow, I am sooo stuck in the 80's)
Also like various stuff from Nirvana, Green Day, Stone Temple Pilots, Faith No More & Weezer.

I like stuff which has a strong melodic line and/or interesting lyrics. If it's loud and passionate - all the better.

So recommendations for a Listening List anyone?
