A slap in the face to Labour

That must hurt like a bitch.
The results for my local council election have just come through. Slough, previously a Labour stronghold, has given them a clear "we are not impressed" signal.
Labour has lost 11 seats on the Slough Council.
The Independent Britwellian Residents retained their 3 seats for Britwell ward, the Liberals also maintaining an even keel with 3 seats. The Conservatives have gained 3 seats, Independant runners have gained 3 seats, and the Liberal Democrats have gained 5 seats.
My ward, retained its three Labour incumbents. I voted for the Independant runners, although I didn't believe they'd win. However I'm slightly cheered by the fact the highest polling received only 3 - 4.6% less votes than the three Labour candidates.
So what does this mean? Basically the positions are reversed. Previously, Labour held 26 council seats in Slough, the other parties holding the remaining 15. After this election, Labour holds 15 council seats, the other parties now holding 26 in toto. That doesn't necessarily mean the disparate parties will be able to work together, but I think it's going to be an interesting couple of years for Slough Council.
* The missing 0.41% is for invalid votes.

In other political news, I wrote to my MP, Fiona MacTaggart, to register my outrage at the White House "Torture is Legal for theBlood-splattered Star-spangled Banner" Memo, and to ask what stance and actions our Labour government will be taking against it.
This is the woman who wholeheartedly endorsed the Higher Educationonly for the Rich Funding Bill in January, so I will be interested to see her reply to me this time.
